Christian Burger is a French sculptor and visual artist whose practice lies at the crossroads of art, design and contextual intervention.
His work is characterized by a close relationship to matter, place and the natural world, as well as by a strong predilection for monumental formats and demanding, sometimes ephemeral materials.
He develops an approach similar to that of the "artist-designer", in that his works frequently arise from commissions within specific contexts — cultural events, public spaces or natural sites — and respond to restrictive specifications which he integrates as a true engine of creation rather than as a limitation.
He personally designs and creates his sculptures, claiming a direct, physical and committed relationship with the material and sometimes forms teams of fellow artists.

Among his major achievements are several monumental metal works that have become iconic, including the monumental statue of Edward Whymper , erected in the heart of the Écrins massif, L'Envol at the summit of the Barre des Écrins , Envol in Montgenèvre, as well as numerous public artworks located in Nice, Colmars-les-Alpes, Munster, Vallouise and in many other territories.
He also designed and created monumental works in assembled wood, notably for the Club Med resorts in Val d'Isère and La Rosière, situating his work within a close dialogue between material, landscape, and architecture.
Christian Burger is particularly renowned for his expertise in several specialized sculptural fields:
° ice and snow sculpture, a field in which he is considered one of the specialists in France;
° the monumental sculpture in corten steel;
° sculptural works in assembled wood;
° and especially the invention and development of the concept of sculptures on hay and straw, a unique approach combining art, landscape and renewable materials .
In this capacity, he is the initiator, organizer and artistic director of the Valloire International Hay and Straw Sculpture Competition, a benchmark event that has helped to give international visibility to this practice.
He is also the artistic director of an international hay sculpture event in the Swiss Haut-Jura and he created a work in hay and straw in " Resonance of the Lyon Contemporary Art Biennial" .
It is also President of the jury since 2022, as well as of the three international ephemeral art competitions in Valloire , and also serves as a member of the jury for the Changbai Mountain (China) international snow sculpture competition.
