L’on quitte Briançon pour s’élever vers le col du Montgenèvre, où, en 1907, eut lieu la première compétition de saut à ski : plutôt que sur la neige, c’était sur l’air que les skieurs devaient glisser. Face aux pistes se dresse la seconde œuvre de Christian Burger : un skieur, planches aux pieds, vole au-dessus de son public, représenté par deux hommes et une femme. Victoire du sportif sur la pesanteur, enthousiasme du public : l’émotion que communique l’œuvre de Burger, avec ses huit mètres de haut, repose sur un autre exploit technique. Le groupe est en effet dessiné par des dizaines de barres d’acier inoxydable reflétant la lumière, chaque personnage renfermant en lui un vide qui forme une sorte d’anti-masse dans laquelle il paraît sculpté : chacun est transparent, révèle arbres, montagne, ciel derrière lui et pourtant installe sa présence avec force. De nuit, éclairé par des projecteurs, le skieur et son public paraissent voler dans les airs, apparition de blanc vêtue, incarnation de l’espoir jamais vaincu.

We leave Briançon to rise towards the collar of Montgenèvre, where, in 1907, took place the first competition of ski jumping: rather than on the snow, it was on the air that the skiers had to slide. In front of tracks raises itself the Christian Burger’s second work: a skier, work in feet, fly over his public, represented by two men and a woman. Victoire of the sportsman on the gravity, the enthusiasm of the public: the emotion which communicates the work of Burger, with its eight metres high, rests on another technical exploit. The group is indeed drawn by dozens bars of stainless steel reflecting the light, every person containing in him a space which forms a sort of anti-mass in which it seems sculptured: each is transparent, reveals trees, montagne, sky behind him and nevertheless installs its presence with force. Of night, lit by projectors, the skier and his public appear to steal in the airs the dressed appearance of white, embodiment of the ever overcome hope.
